Frequently Asked Questions?

Wallpaper FAQ's

Q. What is used to clean wallpaper?

A. Always try warm water first. DON'T use household cleaners.

Q. Can I wallpaper over wallpaper?

A. We do not recommend hanging new wallpaper over existing wallpaper. The tension exerted by the new layer on the old can cause the original bond to fail and the paper could come off the wall, or bubble dramatically.

Q. Can I Repair a small tear in my wallpaper?

A. Yes, you can fix a small tear in your wallpaper, and if you do it right, you will hardly be able to tell! Sometimes, if you still have the torn piece of wallpaper you can smooth it out and glue it back into place.

Q. Do I really need to prime the wall before I wallpaper?

A. Yes, we do recommend priming the wall first. Sometimes referred to as the old fashioned process of "sizing", priming is an important part of the wallpapering process. Primer makes an ideal and uniform surface for your wallpaper to stick to, and is also an important part of making the wallpaper removal process easier.

Q. Why wallpaper, isn't paint cheaper and easier?

A. A well done wallpaper installation may last 15 to 25 years or more with a look that you simply cannot get from paint. The wallpaper and installation is paid for once, as opposed to multiple purchases of paint and labor to paint over the same period.

Q. What types of wallpaper are there?

A. There are many types of wallpaper. Wallpaper consists of a backing material and a surface layer. The backing material could one of the four major types and the surface layer could be paper, fabric, vinyl, natural textile, or one of many other types. Often

Q. Should I inspect my wallpaper when I receive it?

A. Yes. When you receive it, check the wallpaper you have purchased roll by roll to ensure you have the correct pattern, color and sufficient quantity of the same lot number.

Q. What should I be thinking about before I order wallpaper?

A. How good are the walls? If the walls are perfect, a flat finish wallpaper will be alright, or a silk/shimmer effect. If the walls are less than perfect, then look for a paper with an embossed or expanded surface texture. For areas that have a lot of use (e.g. hallways), a very plain finish will show marks. A textured or patterned surface is a little more forgiving.

Q. Do you want the same wallcovering throughout the whole house or personalize the rooms?

A. Borders are one way to add personality while maintaining continuity.

Wooden Flooring FAQ's

Q. Does wood flooring go well with most design styles?

A. Yes. Designers rated natural materials as superior to man-made materials in beauty, prestige, style, maintenance, and durability. A variety of woods and finishes are available to complement the dcor and style of any room.

Q. There are so many species of wood. How do I select one?

A. Choosing a species of wood involves more than selecting a color to match your dcor. Other appearance-related attributes are important too, such as texture, grain, and cut.

Q. Can a wood floor be damp-mopped?

A. You may generally use a dampened (near dry) mop to maintain a wood floor; however excessive moisture will cause damage. Standing water can dull the finish, damage the wood, and leave a discoloring residue. If water spills on a wood floor, immediately wipe it up with a clean cloth.

Q. How can I prevent scratches on wood flooring?

A. Place mats and throw rugs at doorways to help protect wood floors from grit, dirt and sand. Place felt pads under furniture legs and vacuum/dust your wood floor regularly.

Q. Which installation direction do you recommend?

A. We recommend installing your laminate floor lengthwise in the direction of the main source of light and crosswise in the direction of movement. Often the observance of these directions is not possible, i.e. the door and windows might face each other. In such situations you must decide according to your own taste

A. As a rule of thumb, add 7% to 10% for waste and cuts depending on your skill level and the layout of the area.

A. Hardwood flooring is an extremely durable flooring product. It can be installed in virtually any room of your home that is above ground. There are several locations that are not recommended for hardwood flooring. Because hardwood flooring is a natural flooring product it is not recommended that it be installed in wet locations such as bathrooms, washrooms, saunas, enclosed porches or verandas

Q. Can I expect my floor to have color variations?
